The United States Congress, at a session presided over by U.S. Vice President Mike Pence, has officially certified Joe Biden as U.S. president.
The congress certified over 270 Electoral College votes secured by Biden during the November 3, 2020, presidential election.
President Donald Trump had consistently claimed that he won the election and had urged Pence to help him upturn the election, an action believed to have spurred his supporters to invade the Capitol Hill Building on Wednesday.
