BREAKING: Nigerian Female Senator Dies In UK

A Nigerian female senator, Rose Okoji Oko, representing Cross River North Senatorial District, has died in a UK hospital at the age of 63.

Oko was said to have died on Monday night at the UK hospital after an undisclosed illness.

The deceased was the Chairman, Senate Committee on Trade and Investment, and was serving a second term in the upper legislative chamber.

She had served as a member of the House of Representatives representing Yala/Ogoja Federal Constituency from 2011 to 2015 under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) platform.

The deceased was the first female senator to be elected into office represent her Senatorial District in 2015.

She had served in various capacities to include as the Director General, National Defence and Security Council, Cabinet Secretariat under the military presidency in 1993, and as the National Commissioner, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
