The presidential rally of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abeokuta, Ogun State, erupted in a rowdy session as the crowd booed the National Chairman of the party, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, while delivering his address.
The crowed could be heard chanting “Ole!, Go!”, thereby forcing the APC National Chairman to cut short his speech and step away from the podium.
President Muhammadu Buhari could be seen feeling embarrassed where he was seated close to the podium while the booing lasted.
Buhari had taken his campaign train to Abeokuta on Monday, shortly after the APC presidential campaign rally in Ilorin, Kwara state, when the incident took place.
It wasn’t immediately clear why the Ogun youths behaved the way they did, but it may not be unconnected with the lingering rift between Mr Oshiomhole and Ogun State Governor, Mr Ibikunle Amosun. The duo have been at odds following the APC governorship primary election in the state that saw the governor’s preferred candidate, Adekunle Akinlade, loosing to Mr Dapo Abiodun, who is alleged to be the favoured candidate of the oshiomhole and the National Leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The rowdy session lasted for at least five minutes before Amosun stepped on the podium to ask the youths not to embarrass President Buhari whom he described as “our father”.
