BREAKING: Shiites Take Over Federal Secretariat In Abuja

Again, members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) have reportedly picketed the Federal Secretariat in Abuja in furtherance of their protest against the continued detention of their leader, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky.

Reports indicate that the protesters have put all roads around Federal Secretariat complex, Abuja, on lockdown, preventing commuters from moving freely.

The Shiite members were equally said to have pelted police officers who attempted to stop them with stones while chanting “Free El-Zakyzaky”.

THE WHISTLER reports that the Shiite protesters have recently steadied their remonstration in the Federal Capital following the refusal by the Nigerian government to obey a court order to grant their leader bail.

Meanwhile, the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has petitioned the United Nations, accusing President Muhammadu Buhari, and other state governments, of “flagrantly disobeying court orders” to release those incarcerated by security agencies in the country.

Both the Shiite leader, former National Security Adviser (NSA) Col. Sambo Dasuki, and others who are under detention, have previously been grant bail by different courts but are still being kept in detention by the Nigerian authorities.

SERAP warned in the petition that the “Selective enforcement of court orders if not urgently addressed would ultimately put the rule of law in Nigeria under siege.”
