BREAKING: Supreme Court Frees Saraki Of Assets Declaration Charges

The Supreme Court has cleared Senate President Bukola Saraki of the remaining three charges against him in the false declaration of assets case.

Recall that Saraki was facing trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT following an 18-count charge levelled against him by the Code of Conduct Bureau, CCB, bordering on alleged corruption and false declaration of assets while he was governor of Kwara State.

In 2017, all the counts collapsed at the CCT but the government again appealed the ruling.

At the Court of Appeal, three of the charges were upheld, but Saraki’ legal team contested the verdict and approached the Supreme Court.

Supreme Court Justice Centus Nweze in his lead judgment on Friday, upheld Saraki’s appeal and dismissed the Federal Government’s appeal.

He held that the Court of Appeal was wrong to have restored three out of the 18 counts earlier dismissed by the CCT when it agreed that the evidence led by the prosecution was hearsay.
