BREXIT: Boris Johnson Pledges Transformation Of Neglected UK Regions As Britain Leaves EU

The British prime minister, Boris Johnson will pledge to transform neglected regions in the United Kingdom (UK) during his address to Britons hours before the UK’s exit from the European Union (EU).

Johnson took over as prime minister after Theresa May resigned due to failure to deliver Brexit, while her successor, Jonson in 2019 promised to deliver Brexit in the October of the same year, but was unable to secure the divorce.

The UK will finally exit the EU Friday January 31, 2020 by 11P.M and enter a ‘transition period’ which will elapse in December 31, as the UK during the period will be subjected to EU laws and free movement of people will continue.

As part of the devorce process, Johnson in a national address to be broadcast shortly before Britain’s divorce will reiterate that Brexit is “not an end but a beginning”, and he will also stress that the referendum was a vote which did not only centre on leaving the EU, but the move will also guarantee lasting change in neglected areas of the UK. Source told Daily Mail.

Johnson on Friday afternoon will hold a symbolic Cabinet meeting in Sunderland which was the first city to declare for Brexit in 2016 after the referendum results were announced.

The UK PM will also deliver a vital speech on Monday which will clearly reveal his approach to both Brexit and national renewal.

According to reports, the prime minister will be “very frank” on what he intends to achieve in his negotiations with Brussels, also his will to allow UK to leave the EU, with the impending trade barriers.

Reports further have it that Johnson will pledge that Brexit transition period will not run beyond the December deadline.

Recall that the EU had warned that there is not enough time to complete a comprehensive free trade agreement.

However, failure to strike a trade deal by the end of the year would lead a possible trade war between the EU and UK as Britain may introduce tariffs on goods from the EU.

The UK has recently diverted its attention to Africa as a major trading partner as it hosted African leaders early January in bid to project its trade relations outside the EU trade barrier, after which it mapped out $8.5 billion as its post Brexit investment plan for Africa.
