‘Bring Back Our Boys’ Trends As Nigerians Say Buhari ‘Has Failed In All Ramifications’

The attack reportedly occurred on Friday at the Government Secondary School, Kankara, Katsina State – an all boys boarding school with a population of more than 800 students.

BBC Pidgin had reported that at least 400 of the students were still missing about 24 hours after the gunmen invaded the school.

President Muhammadu Buhari, in a statement by his senior media adviser, Femi Adesina, on Saturday, said he had been briefed by Katsina State Governor, Aminu Bello Masari, and the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Tukur Buratai, on the situation.

Buhari, who was in Katsina on holiday when the attack took place, said Buratai informed him that the military had, “located the bandits’ enclave at Zango/Paula forest in Kankara and there have been exchange of fire in an ongoing operation.”

But about 48 hours after the attack, there hasn’t been further updates from the government on the rescue or otherwise of the schoolboys.

This prompted some Nigerians to take to social media to demand the immediate rescue of the students, using the #BringBackOurBoys hashtag.

Many said the Katsina school attack, barely two weeks after Boko Haram terrorists slaughtered over 40 farmers in Borno, was another proof that Buhari “has failed in all ramifications”.
