Budget 2019: Murray-Bruce Raises Five Posers For Buhari

Senator Ben Murray-Bruce has raised five posers after the presentation of the 2019 budget estimates by President Muhammadu Buhari before a joint session of the National Assembly, Wednesday.

The senator who represents Bayelsa East constituency, in Bayelsa State, took to his Twitter handle said the budget was short on transparency.

His first poser: “1-#MytakeonBudget2019 is that this budget does not address the inconsistency with rice importation. The government claims rice importation has reduced, the US Government says our rice importation has gone up by 40% and produced evidence. Who is lying between the two?

“2-#MytakeonBudget2019 There is opaqueness around fuel subsidy or ‘under recovery’ as this government calls it. Last year, the National Assembly DID NOT appropriate for it, yet we have subsidy. What is the true state of things? Is there subsidy? If so how much?

“3-#MytakeonBudget2019 With 13.5 million children, we now have the largest population of out of school kids in the world according to UNICEF. Yet the allocation for education doesn’t reflect this emergency. We should be building schools and employing teachers. We are not on target.

“4-#MytakeonBudget2019 Even though @sgyemikale has released horrible numbers, they may even be worse. How can we trust unemployment numbers given by the National Bureau of Statistics when the President’s spokesman has admitted that the President ordered NBS to change the figures?

“5-#MytakeonBudget2019 There is too much focus on how the executive intend to spend money and not enough on how they intend to make money. Where is this 8.8 trillion coming from? Loans are not revenue. We are already in debt way over our heads.”
