Buhari Appoints Garba Abubakar New CAC Registrar-General

President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday appointed Alhaji Garba Abubakar as the new Registrar-General of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC).

Mr Moses Adaguusu, Head, Public Affairs of the commission, made this know in a statement in Abuja.

Adaguusu said Abubakar’s appointment was conveyed to CAC through the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment.

He said that the new registrar-general has resumed duty.

Garba Abubakar new CAC Registrar-General

Abubakar joined CAC in April 2004 as a Principal Manager Compliance and became a director in January 2016.

Between August 2017 and October 2017, Abubakar was the Special Adviser to the former Registrar-General.

Prior to joining CAC, he worked with the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund,  formerly National Provident Fund, as Compliance Officer between 1991 and 1993.

Abubakar worked at NICON Insurance between June 1995 and December 1997.

He is a member Governing Council of the Nigerian Bar Association on Business Law from March 2017 till date.

He is a member of Inter-Agency Committee Against Money Laundering and Terrorists Financing from 2007 till date and CAC focal on open Government Partnership.

Abubakar is also a member, in-house committee on the review of the Companies and Allied Matters Matters Act (CAMA), among others.

He is married, hails from Bauchi State, born on Oct. 7, 1966.

Abubakar is a graduate of Law from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and was called to the Nigeria Bar in 1989.

Rhe Code of Conduct Tribunal had on Dec. 24, ordered the suspension of the Acting Registrar-General of the commission, Ms Azuka Azinge, for allegedly not declaring her assets.

Meanwhile, Buhari on Thursday also approved the reconstitution of the new board of Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and appointed Mr Ademola Seriki as the board Chairman with effect from Jan. 7.

A statement issued in Abuja by Mr Ibrahim Haruna, Deputy Director, Press of the ministry, said the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Mr Adeniyi Adebayo, disclosed this while presenting appointment letter to new CAC Registrar-General, Alhaji Garba Abubakar.

According to the statement, the minister said that the reconstitution of the board had put to rest the lingering leadership tussle facing the commission.

He urged all directors and staff of the commission to give the new Registrar-General maximum support and cooperation to move the commission forward.

Also, the Minister of State, Amb. Mariam Katagum, while congratulating the new Register-General, also appreciated the former Ag. Registrar-General, Hajiya Saratu Shafi’i, while on acting capacity.

She also urged the registrar to be fair and firm in the discharge of his duties and to work as a team to move the commission to the next level.

Earlier, the Permanent Secretary, Dr Nasir Sani-Gwarzo, stated that the main objective of the appointments was to bring peace and harmony to the commission.

Gwarzo, while presenting the letter of appreciation to the former Ag. Registrar General, Hajiya Hasaratu Shafi’i, for the role she played in her acting capacity, also commended the staff of the commission for their cooperation.

Responding, Abubakar pledged his unflinching support and loyalty to President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration for finding them worthy for the appointments.

He pledged to be fair to all and transform the commission to a world class institution.

“We promise to fulfill the confidence reposed on us by the government,’’ he said.
