Buhari Commissions N50bn Sugar Mill in Niger State

President Muhammadu Buhari has arrived Niger state where he will commission a sugar mill, an investment initiative worth 50 billion naira.

The mill which is expected to produce 100,000 metric tons of sugar yearly is believed to be the largest Agro allied investment in Nigeria.

It would be recalled that a few days ago, the Media Officer of the Flour Mills of Nigeria Plc, Mr Tola Samuel, said the farm at peak production will provide direct employment for about 10,000 people yearly, and impact on up to 50,000 people indirectly, including 3,000 small-scale out growers who will be cultivating sugarcane to feed the mill.

He also added that the sugar estate would feature 17,000 hectares of irrigable farmland and a sugar mill that processes 4,500 metric tons of sugarcane per day.

President Muhammadu Buhari has been on a tour of some troubled states in the country since last week, especially states affected by communal clashes and other crisis between herdsmen and farmers.
