Buhari Congratulates Peter Odili At 70

President Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated former Rivers State governor, Dr. Peter Odili, on the occasion of his 70th birthday anniversary.

Buhari, in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, on Thursday, described the elder statesman as one who has fostered peace in the Niger Delta region.

The President also recognized Odili’s contribution to the development of Rivers State and the nation at large.

The statement read, “As a statesman and Knight Commander of the Order of St Sylvester in the Catholic Church, the President appreciates Sir Odili’s role in fostering peaceful and harmonious environment in the wider Niger Delta region through peaceful engagement and meaningful dialogue, in line with this administration’s commitment to peace, stability, and development in the region.

“As family, friends, colleagues, and well-wishers gather to celebrate Dr. Odili’s milestones and achievements, President Buhari prays God Almighty to sustain him with continued good health and fulfillment in the coming years.”

Politicians from across the country turned up on Tuesday and Wednesday in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, to celebrate Odili as he marked his 70th birthday.

The former Rivers governor, was celebrated as a detribalised and patriotic Nigerian who is committed to the unity and development of Nigeria.

Present and past governors in the country, statesmen, traditional rulers and captains of industries, all graced the two-day event.

Born on 15 August 1948 in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State, Odili graduated from the Medical School of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and pursued post-graduate work in Tropical Medicine at the University of Liverpool in the United Kingdom.

He was elected governor of Rivers State in April 1999, and was reelected in April 2003. Dr. Odili is married to Justice Mary Ukaego Odili.
