Buhari Deny Golden Eaglets Bonuses

President Muhammadu Buhari has rejected a N750, 000 per player bonus proposal for the victorious Golden Eaglets put forward by the Federal Ministry of Sports, adding that the amount was outrageous.

President Buhari had earlier warned that the Nigerian economy is broke and that the Federal government is cutting down spending as the bad state of the economy will likely get worse.

The NFF was forced to put up a much lower proposal of N150, 000 per player, which has been sent to the sports ministry.

Speaking to AfricanFootball, an official of the Ministry of Sports said: “The proposal has been reviewed after the first rejection. We wait for the green light from the presidency on the date for the reception and the reward.”

An outrageous number of football fans have said that it will be embarrassing to the country, demoralizing to football fans, and disappointing to the players if the new proposed sum of N150, 000 is rejected by the Federal Government.
