Buhari Directs Lai Mohammed, Pantami, Others To Negotiate With Twitter

President Muhammadu Buhari has directed the Minister of Information, Lai Muhammed and the Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami to commence negotiation with US microblogging site, Twitter.

Muhammed, who is to lead the team, disclosed this on Tuesday.

Other members of the team include the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami SAN, the Minister of Works and Housing,  Babatunde Fashola ,Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, among other agencies.

The development is coming following pressure from Nigerians over the impact of Twitter ban on the economy.

On June 4, the Minister of Information announced the suspension of Twitter after it deleted a tweet by President Buhari.

Buhari had in the tweet threatened to treat a secessionist groups in the southeast’  “in the language they understand.”

But the platform which has an estimated 40 million users in Nigeria has been a source of business for influencers, advertisers and small businesses.

Buhari has said that Twitter was promoting “activities that are capable of undermining Nigeria’s corporate existence.”
