‘Buhari Not More Powerful Than APC’ – Reps React To President’s Refusal To Honour Invitation

The House of Representatives has reacted to President Muhammadu Buhari’s refusal to honour its invitation to appear before lawmakers to speak on the country’s worsening insecurity.

Buhari had been scheduled to appear before the lower legislative chamber on Thursday, but reneged on the planned visit.

Benjamin Kalu, spokesperson for the Green Chamber, has said Buhari’s invitation which he refused to honour was not to ridicule him.

Kalu told newsmen on Thursday in Abuja that the president was invited to brief the house on the security challenges facing the country and how to address them.

According to him, Buhari might have heeded the advice of his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), not to appear before the house.

“The President is not more powerful than the party, but if he took a decision and his party took another, he must oblige the party,” he said.

Kalu also noted that contrary to a view expressed by the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, the house has the right to summon the president or investigate challenges facing the country.
