Buhari Only President That Doesn’t Interfere In NNPC – kyari

The Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Mele Kyari, said in 29 years, President Muhammadu Buhari is the only Nigerian leader who has not interfered in the corporation’s affairs.

The corporation’s chief said this on Saturday in a tweet seen by THE WHISTLER.

Kyari said, “I have been around in this company for 29 years & have worked closely with top management of the #NNPC for about 15 yrs. This is the only President who has never asked #NNPC to do something. Under no circumstances has President @MBuhari controlled what we want to do.”

The NNPC boss who was appointed in June 2019 targets cutting production costs to $10 per barrel by the end of 2021, a move which would help the nation save up amidst low revenue.

The state owned corporation has been praised over transparency after it published the accounts of the billion dollar corporation for the first time in 43 years.

Kyari had said he has the full backing of the Nigerian president on the reforms carried out by the corporation.

Among the reforms, the NNPC this year removed subsidy which costs Africa’s largest oil producer billions, saying the country can not afford subsidy.

“There would be no resort to either fuel subsidy or under-recovery of any nature. NNPC will play in the petroleum marketplace, just like another marketer in the space,” Kyari said in April.
