Buhari Orders Govt Agencies To Publish Daily Financial Statements To Ensure Transparency 

President Muhammadu Buhari has issued directive to the Accountant General of the Federation and Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to publish daily financial report.

This was issued on Monday at the official launch of the Financial Transparency Policy and Implementation Guidelines by the administration.

Buhari represented by the Minister of State for Niger Delta, Tayo Alasoadura, said the daily treasury statements by the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF) will give the breakdown of all agencies responsible for each payment.

According to him, the directive will promote transparency and accountability in the management of public finance.  

The directive  mandates the AGF to publish daily reports of all payments above N10 million to MDAs.

He said the daily payment reports will also outline the MDAs, the beneficiary, purpose and amount of the payment, while the president made it mandatory for MDAs to publish payments above N5 million.

The OAGF and all MDAs are further expected to publish monthly budget performance report within seven days of the end of the month, their functions, and economic activities performed for the month.

Buhari further directed the OAGF to also publish monthly fiscal accounts within 14 days of the end of the month showing the fiscal performance of the Federation in the area of revenue receipts from all collecting agencies and payments out of the Federation Account.

It added that the audited financial statements for the federal government and all public sector entities are to be published within a month of the end of the first quarter of the following year.

More so, the OAGF is required to publish a quarterly consolidated unaudited financial statement of the Federal Government within a month of the end of the quarter, in addition to an annual general-purpose financial report.
