Buhari’s Appointments Not One-sided, It’s ‘Turn-By-Turn’ – Presidency

The presidency has responded to the allegations of lopsided appointments by the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration.

In a bid to defend the alleged “lopsided appointments” favouring the North, special adviser on media and publicity to the President, Femi Adesina has to consider other characteristics other than federal character when making certain appointments.

While admitting that Buhari’s appointments were indeed more in favour of the North, Adesina stated that the President couldn’t have denied certain persons appointments because they are from a particular region when it is their turn to hold an office.

His words, “When it is the turn of a person to hold a certain office and you say because he is from a certain region you then bypass him for another person, you have been unfair to that person and also to the system.

“The security system often times operates on hierarchy and efficiency. So if you have a senior person who is also efficient and because he comes from a certain region, you bypass him, I think you are being unjust and unfair to somebody.

“There are some (appointments) that are not necessarily subject to federal character,” said Adesina.

Recall that an opposition party, National Conscience Party (NCP), criticised President Buhari for appointing bring back our girls campaigner, Hadiza Bala Usman, as managing director of Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA), describing the appointment as “one wrong appointment too many.”

The NCP said that perceptions that Buhari’s appointments were favoring the North; “right or wrong, has been established.”
