‘Buhari’s N2.9bn ‘Brown Envelope’ Allowance Will Feed 1m IDPs In N/East For Months’

The Senator representing Bayelsa East constituency, in Bayelsa State, Ben Murray-Bruce has made a damning revelation on the 2017 Budget Proposal presented by President Muhammadu Buhari to the National Assembly, in December 2016.

Murray-Bruce, who is also the Chairman of the Silverbird Group, disclosed on Tuesday that the “2.9 billion voted for honoraria for the presidency” in the 2017 budget can be used to feed over a million people currently starving in the Internally Displaced Persons camp in the North East.

Currently there are over 62 aid agencies and NGOs providing relief materials and food stuffs to the IDPs, despite recording shortages.

The United Nations have contributed more than N4bn as life-saving support to the Internally Displaced Persons in the North-East.

The UN explained that almost 7 million people are in dire need of nutrition, food shelter, health, education, protection and sanitation.

The commonsense minister, as he is fondly called, further disclosed that the amount of money budgeted for Aso Rock catering equipment can be used to pay minimum wage for 10,000 Nigerians.
