Buhari To Biden: Let’s Work Together To Tackle Terrorism, Climate Change, Poverty

Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated Joe Biden on his swearing in as the 46th President of the United States.

Buhari’s congratulatory message to Biden and his vice, Kamala Harris, was contained in a statement issued by his senior media assistant, Garba Shehu, on Wednesday.

The Nigerian leader said he hoped that Biden’s administration would foster strong cooperation between the U.S. and African countries.

“We look forward to the Biden presidency with great hope and optimism for strengthening of existing cordial relationships, working together to tackle global terrorism, climate change, poverty and improvement of economic ties and expansion of trade.

“We hope that this will be an era of great positivity between our two nations, as we jointly address issues of mutual interest,” the President added.

Biden, who previously served as America’s 47th vice president under the Barack Obama administration, took over from former president Donald Trump.

The 78-year-old, who had spent 36 years as a Senator (1973-2009) before becoming vice president, contested the November 3, 2020 U.S. presidential election on the platform of the Democratic Party.

At 78, Biden became the oldest person to be sworn in as America’s president and is also the first politician from Delaware to occupy the position.
