President Muhammadu Buhari has withdrawn the nomination of Ahmed Musa Ibeto, of Niger state, as minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Ibeto was among the 21 nominees whose names had been submitted by Buhari, to the Senate for confirmation on September 30.

In a letter addressed to Senate President Bukola Saraki, and read on the floor of the Senate, Buhari said: “I write to withdraw the nomination of Ahmed Ibeto that l earlier submitted. Please accept Mr. Senate President, the assurances of my highest consideration.

Although Buhari withdrew Ibeto’s name without stating reasons, it is widely speculated that his withdrawal is connected to the appointment of another nominee, Abubakar Bwari, in the second batch of nominees, who also hail from Niger State.

Senator Ibetos withdrawal brings the total number of nominees to 36 from 37 earlier submitted.
