Putin, on Sunday, extended his power in Russia for another six years after winning the country’s presidential election with a decisive 73.9% of the votes.

Putin has dominated Russian politics for 18 years and was already the country’s longest-serving leader since Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin.

His election win will take his rule to 2024, when he will be 71.

President Buhari in the letter on Tuesday said Putin’s “success for the fourth time in the election is a clear testimony of the confidence” Russians have in his leadership.

He said he looked forward to continue working with the Russian leader “to strengthen our defence, trade and technical partnerships as well as promotion of private sector participation in all sectors of our economies”.
