#BuhariResign: Nigerians Echo Senator Abaribe’s Call For President To Resign

Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe’s call for President Muhammadu Buhari to resign his office appears to resonate with Nigerians who on Thursday took to Twitter to ask the president to step down for alleged incompetence.

Abaribe, during the senate’s plenary on Wednesday, had said the Buhari administration has shown that it lacks the ability to solve the country’s security challenges and should step aside for a more competent government.

“The hard work that was supposed to be done in Nigeria is not done. We will ask this government to resign because it can no longer do anything in the country,” said the senator representing Abia South senatorial district.

The presidency had in response described Abaribe’s call as “foolish” and noted that the Abia senator had no basis to ask the president to resign.

“President Buhari to resign on what basis? Just because some characters think that President Buhari should resign, then they expect him to quit. That call does not represent the opinion of the country,” the president’s media aide, Garba Shehu said in a tweet, adding, “This is the opinion of an arm chair critic, known for making stray comments.”

But Nigerians appear to share the same view with the senators as the hashtags ‘#BuhariResign’ and ‘#BuhariOut’ are currently trending at number one and five on Twitter.

The twitter users are asking the president to resign as “Insecurity in Nigeria is getting out of hand.”
