Buhari’s Govt Breaks Promise On Publicised Overseas Treatment For Ekwueme

The President Muhammadu Buhari administration has reportedly reneged on its publicised promise to foot the full medical bill of ailing ex-Vice President, Alex Ekwueme.

President Buhari’s Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari, had reportedly told Ekwueme’s family that the Federal Government was only going to release an Air Ambulance to take Ekwueme to London, but won’t be footing his medical bill as earlier publicised.

The Presidency, according to Vanguard, referred Ekwueme’s family to the Anambra State government for the financial aspect.

The sick Second Republic Vice President had since been flown on Sunday abroad by his family for medical attention.

“We are not surprised about the development because Ekwueme has not been receiving his entitlements from this administration. The Federal Government was not pressurised to make the promise. It did so on its own volition,” a family source told Vanguard.

“It is not as if our family could not have treated him in the best hospital in any part of the world. Even if they are not treating him, let them pay him his entitlements when he is still alive. They should not wait until he dies so that they will come and pay tributes to him as the best man while alive,” said the source.
