Buhari’s Supporter Tweets Picture Encouraging Military ‘Take Over’

In what some have considered as encouraging military coup against the democratically elected government of President Muhammadu Buhari, a staunch supporter of the president, Adamu Garba, has shamed Nigerian youths for concerning themselves with crypto-currencies when 37-year-old General Mahamat Idriss Déby is currently leading the Republic of Chad.

Garba said it was a shame on Nigerian youths that someone about the age of President Buhari’s grandson is leading the north-central African country while they occupied themselves with frivolities.

“President Muhammadu Buhari @MBuhari and his almost grandson level President Mahamat Deby Itno of Republic of Chad. Yet Nigerian Youth wants to do crypto. Shame on us all!” Garba, a former presidential aspirant, said in a tweet.

Garba’s tweet quickly generated reactions, with some Nigerians accusing him of encouraging military coup against Buhari’s government.

One Abu Zainab (@aliyuabdul11) said, “That almost grandson stole power in a coup d’etat following his father’s death. Do you want Nigerian youths to do the same?”

Another user, Majeed (@Premium_Majeed), tweeted: “What is there to appreciate about a military junta taking over power in 2021? Son taking over the presidency of a country after the death of his father, is it a royal seat?”

General Déby, who is the son of late Chadian president and current President of Chad’s Transitional Military Council, is reportedly paying a one-day visit to Nigeria to officially introduce himself to President Buhari.

The Major General had taken over power after militant forces reportedly killed his father, Idriss Déby, at the battle front in April.

Buhari, while receiving Déby, promised that his administration would help Chad to stabilize and return to constitutional order following the country’s former president’s death.

“Count on us, we’ll lend a helping hand,” Buhari’s senior media adviser, Femi Adesina, quoted the president as telling Déby.

“We are bound together by culture and geography, and we will help in all ways we can.

“Nigerians know and appreciate the role Chad played in helping us to combat terrorism, and we will continue the collaboration,” the Nigerian president said.
