Calabar Electrocution: Manchester United Sends Condolences To Victims’ Families

United via their official Twitter handle on Friday wrote: “Our thoughts go out to the United fans, their friends and families affected by the tragedy in Calabar, Nigeria, yesterday.”

Channels TV reports that no few than 30 people died after an electric cable fell on them at a football viewing centre during the last night.

However Police in Cross River, on Friday said seven people died while 10 others sustained critical injuries.

Speaking with Channels TV after the ugly incident, a survivor said a transformer near the viewing centre exploded during the match, which caused a high-tension cable to drop on the centre, leading to their electrocution.

The ugly incident occurred at the Inyang-Esu area of Calabar Municipal Local Government Area, Cross River State, south west Nigeria.
