Cameroon Defeats Nigeria To Secure Fifth Win In History

Cameroon have defeated Nigeria by a lone goal in the international friendly at the Stadion Wiener Neustadt in Austria.

The three-time African champions played Cameroon on Friday as part of preparation for the 2022 World Cup Qualifiers which will commence September.

Gernot Rohr’s men conceded in the 37th minute after Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa converted his team’s chances.

Cameroon dominated the first half with a 60 per cent ball possession, while the Super Eagles had 40 per cent.

But the Eagles gave their worst rival in the continent a hard time on the pitch.

Nigeria have not lost a match since they were defeated by reigning African champions Algeria in an international friendly in Austria in October last year.

Friday’s loss to Cameroon ended their unbeaten record secured in their last five games.

The Super Eagles and the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon and Nigeria have battled each other 24 times.

Nigeria has won 12 of the meetings and lost four, with seven ending up as tie.

The Super Eagles had won their foes 3-2 in the 2019 AFCON in Egypt. Both countries have qualified for the African Cup of Nations.
