Catholic Priest Abducted In Anambra, Found In Imo

The Rev Fr Valentine Tochukwu Ezeagu of Sons of Mary Mother of Mercy Generalate in Anambra State, who was abducted by kidnappers while travelling to his village at Igboukwu in Aguata LGA of Anambra State, has been rescued, according to the Imo State Police Command.

THE WHISTLER reports that the Rev Fr Ezeagu was kidnapped by a four-man gang at Umulolo in Arondizuogu, Imo State, at about 8pm Tuesday. He was forced into the back of his car by his abductors on his way home for the wake of his late father.

A release by the office of the secretary general, Sons of Mary Mother of Mercy Generalate, signed by the secretary general, Rev Fr Goodluck C. Ajaero, and made available to THE WHISTLER in Owerri on Wednesday, stated that the priest was travelling to his village for his father’s funeral billed for today, Wednesday, when he was kidnapped.

According to the statement, “He was travelling in a Corolla 2005 model, sky green in colour. The plate number of his car is JJJ664BM. According to an eyewitness, four armed men came out from the bush in a bad spot at Umulolo, Arondizuogu, and forced him to the back of the car and sped off.”

Meanwhile, the Imo State Police Command has announced the rescue of the priest. The state police PRO, SP Orlando Godson Ikeokwu, in a chat, said, “Rev Fr Valentine Oluchukwu Ezeagu regains freedom; his vehicle recovered.”
