A Catholic priest, Rv Fr Ifeanyi Nwude, today in Awka, Anambra State, urged road users to strictly observe traffic rules and regulations to curtail road accidents in the country.

Father Nwude stated this during a church service in commemoration of this year’s African Road Safety Day and the World Day of Remembrance of Road Traffic Victims held at St Patrick’s Cathedral, Akwa.

The service was organised by the Federal Road Safety Corps, Anambra State, and the International Association of World Peace Advocates.

The sector commander, FRSC, Anambra State, CC Andrew A Kumapayi, led officers and men of the FRSC, including head of plant NVIS, Awka; the representative of the controller of Immigration Service, Anambra State, and special marshals during the service.

According to him, the church service marked the end of the week-long event in commemoration of African Road Safety day and the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims. The theme of the event is “Remember Support Act”.

Mr Kumapayi, while delivering the corps marshal’s speech, said, “The World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims is a day set aside by the United Nations on every third Sunday of November, each year, to remember millions of lives lost or hurt by road traffic crashes, while the African Road Safety Day is also in solidarity with the event to advocate for safer roads and road victims’ rights around the world.”
