The Code of Conduct Tribunal has fixed October 5, 2016 for ruling on an application filed by the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki to suspend hearing on charges levied against him.

The Senate President is currently standing trial for alleged non-declaration of assets.

The Federal Government had alleged that Saraki made false/anticipatory declaration of assets, operated foreign accounts while in office as Kwara State governor between 2003 and 2011, as well as collected governorship salary four years after his tenure had elapsed.

Saraki, through his team of lawyers led by Chief Kanu Agabi, SAN, asked Justice Danladi Umar who is Chairman of the CCT, to disqualify himself from the trial, maintaining that the judge should hands off and step down as the open court clearly portrayed his bias against him.

However, the counsel to the government, Mr. Rotimi Jacobs, SAN asked the court to dismiss the motion, as according to him is was a deliberate ploy by the Senate President to stall his trial.

A statement by the CCT’s Head of Press and Public Relations, Mr. Ibraheem Al-Hassan, also fixed September 21 to deliver judgement on case of non-declaration of asset against former Minister for Niger Delta Affairs, Mr. Godswill Orubebe.
