The Abia State boxing championship, titled Enyimba 2025, has ended with Zoe Chibuike Okoronkwo defending his Featherweight title with a technical knockout victory over Nwambeke Ndubuisi.
Israel Obinna Ogbodo beat Udeh Chibuike, and Chinaza Ikechukwu Okoronkwo retained his Lightweight title with a unanimous decision win over Ede Emmanuel Peter.
At the “Enyimba 2025” event at Aba Sports Club, Commissioner Sir Nwaobilor Ananaba said Governor Alex Otti’s administration is actively boosting sports in Abia State. The event fits into the governor’s plan to scout and develop local talents.

The Commissioner explained the state sponsors sports to identify talents, create a structure to nurture them, and help them excel.
“We’re grateful to the governor for supporting us, he even procured a boxing ring to encourage talent growth,” Ananaba said, urging youths to follow legends like Obisie Nwakpa.
Ananaba praised Abia State’s sports progress, thanking Governor Otti for his support and appreciating the organizers and Aba Sports Club for hosting.
Dr. Rafiu Oladipo, Nigerian Supporters Club president, thanked Governor Otti and called for more government support for boxing, noting it was boxing that first put Nigeria on the global sports map. He urged youths to take sports seriously, saying, “Sports is a big business today.”
Abia State’s Sports Director, Comrade Obioma George, called the championship a first for the state, celebrating two local boxers for defending titles.
He thanked the boxers for donating equipment, saying this will boost Abia’s boxing.
The event included the handover of a boxing ring, procured thanks to Governor Otti. Ex-boxer Ikechukwu Okoronkwo thanked the governor for approving the equipment and championship.
