CHAN 2016 Warm-up: Eagles Defeat Ivory Coast

The home based Super Eagles on Monday evening defeated the Elephants of Ivory Coast 1-0 in their final warm-up match ahead of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) in Rwanda.

A cool finish from Ifeanyi Mathew at the stroke of halftime was all Nigeria needed to defeat their West African rivals in a final pre-tournament test match at Tuks Stadium in Pretoria, South Africa.

It was a very balanced game as both sides showed class and good use of techniques and tactics, but Sunday Oliseh’s side were better in the first 45 minutes, as the game ended 1-0 in favour of Nigeria.

On the match the Eagles coach Sunday Oliseh told The PUNCH in an exclusive interview that he was satisfied with the display put up by the Eagles.

“Yes I’m satisfied with the input and general organisation,” he said.

Nigeria had earlier been forced to a 1-1 draw by Angola last week as the team test run strategies towards a better outing at the 2016 CHAN which begins on Saturday.

Through the qualifiers to the African finals, the Eagles were also unbeaten. They defeated Burkina Faso 2-0 in Port Harcourt in the first leg before they held their West African rivals to a scoreless draw in Ouagadougou to qualify.
