‘Chelsea Superior Tactically, Physically’ – Atlético Madrid

Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone has conceded his side were second best after they were narrowly defeated by English Champions, Chelsea on Wednesday night UEFA Champions League football.

“They were superior tactically and physically. They are a very competitive team, they showed more maturity than us and we have to congratulate them.” Simeone said.

The Blues claimed a last-gasp 2-1 winner, after coming from behind at the Metropolitano stadium to stun Atlético and now top Group C with two wins from two games.

While reacting to his men’s victory, the Stamford boss Antonio Conte, praised the “personality” of his side’s performance as Chelsea became the first English side to win at Atletico Madrid in the Spaniards’ last 12 games in the competition on home soil (since losing to Benfica in September 2015).

“It’s very difficult when Atletico score [first] to come back. Despite this we deserved to win, we continued to play with good personality, we kept our head on the pitch in every moment,” the 48-year-old coach said.

“We must be pleased with the performance and overall the personality we showed. I always tell my players that it doesn’t change when you play at home or away, you have to play with the same personality and desire to play and try to deserve to win,” he added.

Conte also praised striker Michy Batshuayi who came from the bench to score a 94th-minute winner as the English Champions snatched a dramatic victory against the Spanish club.

“It’s a very important goal for Michy, don’t forget he is another young player and last season he struggled a lot to understand the league,” Conte told a news conference.

“I think he’s improving and his commitment has been very good during the transition. He has a lot of room for improvement and he has to continue to work in this way because every time you have the chance to play you must respond.”

The 23-year-old made only one Premier League start last campaign and has only been awarded one starting berth so far in the league this season, even with Diego Costa being excluded from the team before rejoining Atletico.
