Child Care Not Pre-Programmed In The Vagina- Chimamanda

Nigerian novelist, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, is not giving up on her fight against sexism as she says domestic work or childcare does not come pre-programmed in the vagina.

This comes days after she addressed the negative reaction she received for asking Hillary Clinton why her Twitter bio begins with ‘wife.’

The award-winning writer disclosed this in a chat on pregnancy and feminism with Guardian UK, where she spoke about many issues woman are faced with, some of which include the culture of likability and how pregnancy affects the woman’s growth.

Adichie raged against terms such as “baby bump” which she says is “diminishing” because it prevents proper discussion of serious issues such as the gender pay gap and maternity leave.

“There are so many women for whom pregnancy is the thing that pushed them down, and we need to account for that,’’ she explained.

‘’We need to have a clause in every job that a woman who gets pregnant gets her job back in exactly the same way. It’s wrong!’’.

‘’I don’t think I’m more inherently likely to do domestic work or childcare … It doesn’t come pre-programmed in your vagina, right?”
