Chimamanda Adichie Loses Son Born Via Surrogacy

Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and her husband, Dr. Ivara Esege, have lost one of their twin sons, Nkanu Nnamdi.

Their 21-month-old son died on Wednesday after a brief illness.

The death was confirmed in a statement issued by Adichie’s communications team and signed by Omawumi Ogbe.

The statement described the loss as devastating for the family.

According to the statement, the family has appealed for privacy and urged the public to respect their decision to mourn in seclusion.

They also requested prayers during the difficult period.

Adichie married Esege, a medical doctor, in 2009, and they had their daughter in 2016 before welcoming the twin boys in 2024 via surrogate.

She shared her surrogacy story at the #WithChude live event to help other women avoid shame over fertility challenges or alternatives.
