Sanwo-Olu urged employers in the private sector in the state to emulate the government’s effort to combat the virus in the state.

“In addition to all the previous directives issued so far, I am now hereby directing all public officers in the entire unified public service from Grade Levels 1 to 12, which constitutes 70 percent of the entire public service workforce, to stay at home from Monday, March 23, 2020, for 14 days in the first instance.

“We will review this as time goes on. Members of the public are advised to refrain from visiting public offices, and to transact as much business as is possible through the telephone and online channels,” he said.

On its part, the Kwara State government ordered all civil servants in the state to work from home – with the exception of workers in the state’s ministry of health and other essential workers.

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, who gave the order on Sunday, said although Kwara had not confirmed a case of COVID-19, but noted that it was imperative to take proactive steps to protect the people in the state.

“The welfare, security and well-being of all Kwarans are of utmost importance to our administration and, as such, we have embarked on a robust healthcare transformation agenda to give every Kwaran access to better quality and affordable healthcare,” AbdulRazaq said in  a statement he personally signed on Sunday.

“Given the aforementioned and the global health emergency situation, our administration has taken the following difficult but important decisions to protect Kwarans:

“1)     Closure of all public and private nurseries, primary, secondary and state-owned Tertiary institutions.
