Codeine: Shehu Sani Slams NAFDAC Over Emzor Shutdown

Senator representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District in the Senate, has slammed the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, for shutting down Emzor pharmaceutical and two other companies.

THE WHISTLER recalls that the drugs control agency, on Monday, shutdown the Pharmaceutical companies following a report by the BBC which exposed the abuse of the codeine based syrup.

Describing the action as an “overkill”, the senator via his Twitter page on Tuesday, said that such reputable companies must “not be ruined”.

He said, “The shutdown of Emzor and two other pharmaceutical companies by NAFDAC is an overkill.

“Issues of violations if actually true, can be penalized with proportionate sanctions.

“Such reputable companies doing legitimate business & employing thousands of Nigerians must not be ruined.”
