What The Color Of Your Period Says About Your Health

A period is the part of the menstrual cycle where a woman bleeds from her vagina for a few days.

For most women this happens every 28 days or so, but it’s common for periods to start sooner or later than this, ranging from day 24 to day 35.

Menstruation itself doesn’t hurt, but some women get cramps or other symptoms during their periods that may be uncomfortable.

The color, smell and consistency of your menstrual flow could give you some vital information regarding other things that are happening in your body.

1. Bright red. Bright red is the normal color.

Again, everybody’s “normal” will look different, but generally speaking, a consistently bright red flow that looks a cranberry red, experts says that everything is normal.

2. Pink. If it’s pinkish, You may have low estrogen levels. Especially if it’s accompanied by a lighter-than-usual flow

Every month is different, but if month after month is this way, you may want to see a doctor.

3. Watery. If it’s watery-looking, You may have a nutritional deficiency usually a sign of anemia.

Monitor your period for two or three cycles, if same, you may want to see a doctor.

4. Orange. An orange color combined with a foul smell and a non-slippery consistency may be the sign that you have an STD.

5. Dark brown. If it’s dark brown or any shade of brown, They are just older pieces of the uterus and some older blood finally being flushed out of your system. It is normal for this to happen.

6. Dark red with clots. This depends on the size of the clot, the size of a quarter or larger can indicate low progesterone levels and high estrogen levels which is a sign of a definite hormone imbalance.

Clots are normal, but if you’re passing clots larger than a quarter, you should see a doctor for a diagnosis.

7. Dark red. This is generally seen towards the end of your flow and it’s a sign of a healthy body that is simply ending its period and the estrogen is rising.
