The National leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been warned against unlawfully imposing a caretaker committee on the Ebonyi State Chapter of the party.

The party has also been asked not to “side-line or treat as pariah and underdogs foundation members of the party who suffered with it at odd or trying moments.”

The call was made by lawyers representing a faction of the Caretaker Committee of the State APC led by Chief Eze Nwachukwu Eze.

In a document obtained by THE WHISTLER, the faction disclosed that “on 16 November 2020, some PDP members led by Stanley Okoro, a serving commissioner in Ebonyi State, who have not formally registered as members of APC, were purportedly nominated, imposed or adopted as the purported caretaker committee of he APC in Ebonyi State, which attracted much condemnation, protests and objection by the teeming foundation members and stakeholders of the APC in Ebonyi State.”

Citing the decision of a meeting of an Emergency National Executive Meeting of the party held on 8 December 2020, the document disclosed that the “National Executive Committee (NEC) dissolved and approved the immediate reconstitution and composition of the dissolved Excos in their respective offices in a caretaker Committee capacity.”

It explained that by virtue of the 4th resolution of the party’s NEC, Chief Eze Nwachukwu Eze, et al, remains the valid APC caretaker committee in the state.

Accordingly, the document pointed out that the NEC had “unanimously approved the immediate reconstitution and composition of the dissolved Excos to serve in their respective offices in a caretaker committee capacity to the exclusion of the makeshift PDP card-carrying members now parading themselves as the APC caretaker committee in Ebonyi State, who are now seeking recognition of the APC National leadership and the NEC by all means.”

The solicitors representing the Chief Nwachukwu faction expressed surprised that the alleged impostors who are yet to be formally registered as members of the party in the state are treating the foundation members as strangers; and have boasted openly that they are the owners of the party thereby struggling to take control of the party structures, as well as working to hijack materials meant for the forthcoming revalidation and registration of members.

The document therefore cautioned the party to resist attempts by persons “no matter how highly placed, to impose or adopt the purported APC caretaker committee led by Stanley Okoro as it’s caretaker committee in Ebonyi State.”

Additionally it stressed that the APC must avoid acts that may plunge the party into unnecessary bickering and other leadership crises.
