Investigation has begun into alleged poor execution of a road project at Igarra Akoko- Edo in Edo State, valued at N200m by Royal Jeff Nigeria Ltd, a road construction firm.

Ohiozojeh Akpatason, the lawmaker representing Akoko Edo Federal Constituency at the House of Reps, signed a directive seen by THE WHISTLER to the awarding ministry to probe the contract.

The letter, which is on the letterhead of the Deputy House Leader and dated July 5, is addressed to the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Abuja.

A video of a constituent protesting the poor handling of the project had triggered the reaction from Akpatason.

The video clip, which was seen by THE WHISTLER, captured the road project allegedly constructed by Royal Jeff Nigeria.

The video begins with a male who claimed to be a constituent, digging with his bare hands a drainage which was covered with cement plaster of less than 3 inches.

“I swear to God if anybody… God is seeing all of us in this country… Tommorrow people will point fingers at (President) Buhari,” the constituent said.

Apart from the substandard materials used, the drainage was badly channelled, he alleged.

The letter by Akpatason said the road was part of the Zonal Intervention Projects in the 2020 Appropriation Act.

“I am personally very embarrassed by the disturbing allegations contained in a short video by one of my constituents, who claimed the ongoing job is grossly substanded.

“Therefore, I request that the Rural Development Department should urgently investigate the allegations as contained in the viral video and report back within 24 hours with details of your findings for necessary actions to address this unpleasant development.”

He also requested that his office be furnished with the details of the awards as well as the Bills of Quantity.
