Coronavirus: Despite Border Closure, Flights Suspension, Armenia Records First COVID-19 Case

Coronavirus (COVID-19) has spread to Armenia despite shutting its border with Iran for two weeks and suspending air traffic a week ago to prevent the spread of the disease into the country.

The Asian country reported its first coronavirus infection on Sunday.

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said the case was discovered in one of its citizens who recently returned from neighboring Iran.

Pashinyan announced this in a Facebook post on Sunday.

The patient, 29, had arrived in Armenia from Iran on Friday and went to a doctor because he was not feeling well.

“He is now in good condition,” Pashinyan said, adding that authorities planned to isolate those who had been in contact with him.
