Coronavirus: Former U.S. Presidential Aspirant, Rep In Self-Quarantine

Two members of the United States Congress – Senator Ted Cruz and Rep. Paul Gosar – have put themselves under self-quarantine after having contact with a man infected with Coronavirus at a political conference.

Cruz, a former Republican presidential aspirant, has been the junior U.S senator for Texas since 2013.

Gosar, who is also a member of the Republican party, has represented Arizona’s 4th congressional district since 2013.

They were said to have had contact with the infected man at the Conservative Political Action Conference that was held a fortnight ago.

The U.S. media reports that three members of Gosar’s senior staff were also in self-quarantine while his office would be shut down for weeks pending the outcome of their statuses.

Cruz had announced his decision to isolate himself in a tweet on Monday morning.

“I’m not experiencing any symptoms, and I feel fine and healthy,” Cruz said in the statement.

“Given that the interaction was 10 days ago, that the average incubation period is 5-6 days, that the interaction was for less than a minute, and that I have no current symptoms, the medical authorities have advised me that the odds of transmission from the other individual to me were extremely low,” he added.

Rep Gosar also announced his decision to isolate himself via his official twitter account (@DrPaulGosar) on Moday morning.
