Coronavirus Now A Global Emergency – WHO

The World Health Organization(WHO) has declared Coronavirus a global emergency.

The disclosure was made on Thursday by WHO chief, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

According to him, the announcement is due to the fact that many are being infected in other countries, aside China.

“The main reason for this declaration is not what is happening in China but what is happening in other countries.

The concern is that it could spread to countries with weaker health systems, according to BBC.

Currently, the death toll in China has risen to 170, with over 6000 people infected within and outside the country.

WHO also stressed that there are 98 cases of the virus in eighteen counties outside of China, but no deaths recorded.

Furthermore, Ghebreyesus lauded China for putting measures in place to contain the menace.

The tension has led many countries to start evacuating their citizens from China.

The Nigerian government has also urged its citizens to shift their travel plans to China going by the outbreak of the virus.

The SARs-like virus which originated from Wuhan , China spreads through human-to-human transmission.

China and America says their health agencies are working on the drug that would cure it.
