Council Calls For Early Deployment Of IPv6

The Internet Protocol version Six (IPv6) Council in Nigeria has called for early migration and adoption of its most recent IP version in the country.

The IPv6, according to Wikipedia, is a “communications protocol that provides an identification and location system for computers on networks and routes traffic across the Internet. “

With the IPv6, devices can pass packets over a network, using the Internet Protocol as source and destination addresses.

During his visit to Internet Solution Nigeria, the Council`s Chairman, Mr. Muhammed Rudman, advised on the need for service providers in the country to migrate to the IPv6.

Rudman said the deployment of the new Internet Protocol version could enhance internet service experience in the country.

“We are worried that some countries in Africa have started migrating to IPv6 networks, yet Nigeria that prides itself as number one in terms of Internet usage in Africa is not making a serious move,” he said.

The Council Chairman lauded Internet Solutions for deploying IPv6 on its network, while urging other Nigerian service providers to follow suit.

In his remark, the Head of Network Operations at Internet Solutions, Mr. George Olunwa said, “What we have seen is that most of the clients are still going for IPV4, even though the cost of getting IPv6 is minimal. But, we believe that with this sort of advocacy being carried out by the IPv6 Council Nigeria, service providers as well as enterprise networks will begin to see a need for the deployment.“
