Court Grants Bail To Osun Pupils Charged With Attempted Murder, Cultism

Five secondary school pupils in Osun State who were arraigned by the Police for attempted murder, belonging to a secret court group and other offences have been granted bail by an Osogbo Magistrates’ Court.

The five pupils identified as; Abdulateef Surajudeen (18years), Musibau Quadri (20yrs), Tunde Sikiru (20yrs), Azeez Ibrahim (18yrs) and a 16-year-old were arraigned on five counts of conspiracy, attempted murder, membership of unlawful society, malicious damage and breach of public peace.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Jacob Akintunde, told the court that the five pupils and others now at large around 1pm on November 23, 2020, around at Ifeoluwa Grammar School, Osogbo attempted to kill one Yekeen Basiru who they stabbed on his back and left hand with an axe.

He added, “They are members of an unlawful society known as Eiye Confraternity Society; damaged the building of Ifeoluwa Grammar School and windscreen of Mercedez Benz ML320 with registration number AP 665 SGB property of Ajibade Kehinde. “

The prosecutor told the court further that the offences committed are contrary to Section 320, 516, 64 and 451 of the Criminal Code Cap 34. Vol II Laws of Osun State 2002.

But the five pupils pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against them.

Counsel for the defendants, Toba Joshua, made an oral bail application for the pupils stating that bail is their right under the law.

The prosecutor however opposed the application stating that the pupils might run away and the wounded person was still in the hospital.

The magistrate, A. A Adeyeba, granted bail to the five pupils with the sum of N1 million and two sureties each.

He adjourned the case to January 27, 2021, for mention.
