Court Jails Buhari, One Other For Smoking Weed

Two persons have been sentenced to three months imprisonment each, by an Abuja Grade 1 Area court presided by Magistrate Mohammed Marafa, for smoking Indian hemp in Kagini, a suburb of Abuja Municipal Area Council, AMAC, of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT.

The culprits, Mohammed Murtai, 20 and Buhari Sani, 19, both residents of Kagini Junction, were convicted for public nuisance, offence contrary to Section 183 of the Penal Code.
According to police prosecutor, DSP Egwu Anthony, the accused on October 13, were found in possession of some quantities of weed suspected to be Indian hemp.
Egwu said the accused were smoking the substance in public, thereby causing public nuisance especially to residents of the area.
When the charge was read to the accused, they pleaded guilty, and were sentenced to three months imprisonment each by the judge, with an option of N15, 000 fine.
