COVID-19: Benue Turning Back Vehicles From ‘Far North’

The Benue State government is turning back vehicles traveling into the state from the “far north,” according to the deputy governor, Benson Abouno, who also disclosed that it intercepted a truck with 10 almajiris.

Abounu stated this on Monday during an interview with newsmen, when he led an inspection team to monitor the taskforce at the state border with Nasarawa State.

This is coming few days after the state repatriated 59 almajiris to Bauchi and Katsina states.

According to Abounu, they were able to turn back a number of buses from far north, who were on their way to Makurdi, the state capital, with no reason or purpose.

He said “Nasarawa State confirmed nine cases some days, our fear is that, if we do not lock down on the interstate boundaries, we may have some imported spread from other states, so I have come here today to inspect the taskforce, what the taskforce is doing over here. In the one hour that am here, we’ve been able to turn back some buses that have brought people from the far north, who are coming to Makurdi with no specified business in mind.”
