COVID-19 Cases Crossing 1,000, Abia State Urges Residents To Go For Free Testing

The Abia State government has directed its residents to avail themselves of free COVID-19 testing put in place by the government to protect the state against further spread of the virus.

The Secretary to the State Government, Chris Ezem, disclosed this in a statement made available to the press on Thursday.

“As part of the measures to mitigate the effect of the pandemic in the State, all Abians are required to compulsorily wear their face masks at all times,” the statement said.

Ezem noted that the government had set up “Sample Collection Centres at the various Local Government Areas including Infectious Disease Hospital, Aba and Molecular Testing Laboratory at Amachara”.

The government directed all MDAs, public offices and places to provide all COVID-19 Protocols, particularly running water and hand sanitisers within their offices.

“Government also directs all Local Government Chairmen, Traditional Institutions, Leadership of various Market Unions and Religious bodies, including the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) etc…

“…To embark on Advocacy/Sensitization Exercise on Covid-19, and religious worship must be in line with laid down Covid-19 protocols,” it said.

The state had recorded 29 cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, and 1,065 cases in total since the outbreak in 2020.
