Covid-19: Italy PM Resigns Over Alleged Mismanagement Of Pandemic

Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte, resigned on Tuesday after admitting government’s failure to properly handle the financial crisis associated with the pandemic.

His resignation was confirmed by President Sergio Mattarella.

In its reaction, the presidency stressed that the country would continue to run as normal.

However, it was mute over the next line of action regarding the matter.

“The President will begin consultations with the leaders of the country’s main political parties on Wednesday afternoon.

“The President of the Republic is reserving his decision and has asked the government to stay in office for the management of ordinary affairs,” it stated.

CNN reports that Conte’s resignation is “a tactical political maneuver that he hopes will allow him to build a new coalition.”

Conte is said to be losing grip on the country’s politics.
