COVID-19: Lagos Distributes 3000 Palliatives To Persons Living With HIV/AIDS

The Lagos State AIDS Control Agency (LSACA) has distributed 3,000 COVID-19 relief packages to People Living with HIV/AIDS (PLWH) in Lagos State.

LSACA disclosed this through the Lagos State Government Twitter handle on Friday.

The agency stated that the relief items comprise 2000 packs of noodles and 1,000 sacks of staple food items.

The director of the agency, Dr Monsurat Adeleke while addressing beneficiaries during the distribution of the relief packages, said the gesture is a reflection of the inclusive governance initiative of the current administration.

According to her, the Lagos State governor, Jide Sanwo-Olu, who also doubles as the chairman of the Agency “sought for the relief materials under the auspices of Private Sector Coalition Against COVID-19 (CACOVID), for onward delivery to the Ministry of Agriculture and @Lagoscoconut (Lagos State Coconut Development Authority).

Dr Adeleke described the relief materials as an all-in-one package, adding that each of the 1000 LASG/CACOVID sacks distributed contained 5kg of Sugar, 1kg of Salt, 10kg of Rice, 5kg of Garri and a Carton of Pasta, apart from the 2000 Cartons of noodles.

She explained that the 1000 members of the association, who will benefit from the relief packages, include Network of People Living With HIV/AIDS in Nigeria (NEPWHAN), Lagos State Chapter; Association of Women Living With HIV/AIDS (ASWHAN); Association of Positive Youth in Nigeria (APYIN) and Association of Orphan and Vulnerable Children (OVC) among others.

In the light of the pandemic, Lagos State has continued to top the chart with the highest record of COVID-19 cases.

As of October 1, 2020, the state has recorded a total of 19,542 cases of the infectious virus.
