The Director General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control,(NCDC) Chikwe Ihekweazu, has hinted that a laboratory for COVID-19 testing is about to be inaugurated in Rivers State.
He told THE WHISTLER on Saturday, “It will be activated this weekend.”
It was gathered that the lab to be activated is located within the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital.
So far, Rivers State has recorded seven
confirmed cases of coronavirus.
During a briefing recently by the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, he claimed that the reason for the absence of testing centres in the state was because the federal government agencies wanted Rivers people “to suffer.”
Meanwhile the NCDC has activated 18 laboratories across different states of the country with the most recent in Kano.
